A wide variety of stores and malls are available throughout the Leavenworth and Kansas City areas. Plus, members of the Fort Leavenworth community can enjoy the convenience of shopping here on post, with reasonable retail alternatives to fit any style or budget.
Fort Leavenworth opened a new Post Exchange in September 1996 that is open seven days a week and most holidays with 70,000 sq. ft. of sales floor space. The PX provides a variety of goods and services such as electronics, computers, jewelry, furniture, cosmetics, giftware, stationery, clothing, military clothing, and shoes, as well as an assortment of concession shops in the mall area.
The Shoppette/Class Six is behind the AAFES Service Station on Kansas Avenue. It is open every day and evening for food, beverages, sundry items and video rentals.
The Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) Book Store, located on the lower level of the Lewis and Clark Center, has a selection of military and leisure books, computer software and stationery items.
Other facilities that the AAFES provides are the AAFES Service Station, the Lewis and Clark Center Cafeteria, the PX Food Court (Robin Hood, Anthony’s Pizza, Taco Bell, Charley’s Grilled Subs), Burger King, Eisenhower Hall Snack Bar and the Fitz Lee Theater.
The Fort Leavenworth Commissary is open Tuesday through Sunday. It sells more than 16,000 grocery - including meat, produce and deli/bakery - and household items to authorized customers at cost plus a five percent surcharge. The surcharge returns to the commissary system for construction, maintenance and operating supplies.
A delicatessen and an in-store bakery are special features of the Commissary. The delicatessen prepares party trays and fresh sandwiches. The produce department offers special-order vegetable trays, fruit trays and live plants.
The Defense Commissary Agency manages the Commissary and offers various promotions throughout the year, with major sales in May and September.
The Commissary accepts personal checks, EBT Card, Women, Infant and Children vouchers, debit cards, VISA, MasterCard and Discover. The Commissary also accepts merchandise coupons, which increase customer savings.
Baggers are available to assist. They are not government employees, but independent workers who work for tips only. However, customers are not obligated to tip them. Customers may prefer to bag and carry their own groceries. The Commissary supports its customers’ recycling efforts. You may bring grocery bags for use with your own groceries.
In addition to the fast-food restaurants in the Post Exchange shopping center, AAFES operates cafeterias in the Lewis and Clark Center and Eisenhower Hall.
Strike Zone at the Bowling Center and Fairway Grille at Trails West Golf Course feature a variety of grilled items, salads and more for the whole family to enjoy. Strike Zone also features fresh pizzas for lunch, dinner and parties.
